WHOLESALE

SOURCING

Our wholesale service includes everything from clarifying your needs, across purchasing ideal materials at quality-controlled auction houses on your behalf, to handling, treatment and manufacture according to our strict specifications before dispatching the finished products.

We keep up to date on the market situation and participate in every major fur auction – both on behalf of clients and to replenish our own stocks.

By buying from reliable sources while eliminating middlemen, we are able to offer first-hand prices for premium merchandise.

WIDE RANGE
OF MERCHANDISE

Hofmann & Son stock a wide spectrum of professionally dressed fur pelts in natural and dyed colours. Items of similar type, size and colour are sorted and grouped for easy access.

We offer both top-quality unfinished pelts and finished articles that are expertly produced in our own in-house workshops.

ASSURED QUALITY

We ensure a high standard of quality by various means. This starts with making sure to buy only excellent furs and pelts and continues with proper storage, treatment and handling. All of our furs are dressed and dyed in Europe. The quality control process includes end-to-end inspection.

Of special concern to us is where furs come from and how they have been bred, handled and treated. We avoid the use of chemicals and potentially hazardous substances and do any requested dyeing in close consultation with the customer.

Hofmann & Son belong to the independently monitored Origin Assured™ transparency initiative. The OA™ mark may only be used on furs from countries where relevant regulations or standards are in force.

MANUFACTURE

Handmade in Europe

Here in Frankfurt, we have everything under one roof. The skill and expertise of our craftspeople are priceless. Day in and day out, they perform the many steps involved in creating finished products with great attention to detail. Despite the large volumes we handle, every item receives the attention it deserves.

DEVELOPMENT

A custom design begins with a paper pattern which is prepared in accordance with the customer’s wishes, measurements and other specifications. Then our in-house cutters and tailors create a prototype product. Throughout the process, we stay in communication with the client to clarify visual aspects, technical details and design’s practical feasibility. By making the most efficient use of material, we avoid unnecessary costs while maximising efficiency.

PRODUCTION

Handcrafted perfection is our metier: from cutting and slicing across stitching and soaking to stretching and shaping. The process includes removing any imperfections and steam-fluffing the fur. The parts are assembled to create yet another beautiful article. Finally, a thorough check is performed to ensure that it satisfies highest standards. Only then is the result packaged and sent on its way.

DESIGN

FASHION

Hofmann & Son are an active player in the fashion industry, collaborating closely with designers, inspirational fashion brands, and major department stores in London, Milan, Paris, New York and elsewhere. We are also regularly represented at international trade fairs with our own stand.

CREATIVE LABORATORY

There are no limits to the creative possibilities. The leather side of a skin can be given a velour, nubuck or napa texture, for example, or dyed (ideal for reversible apparel). Wonders can be achieved with the longer guard hairs and denser underwool. Bleaching adds interest by, for example, imparting a frosty look, changing the colour or only treating the tips of longer hairs.

Skins can be dyed in a single colour, toned out to enhance the natural hue, or dyed in multiple colours for a degradé effect. Logos, stripes or other patterns can also be printed on the hair side.

OWN BRANDS

H & S have launched their own bespoke marques to make distinctive fashion statements.

FUR DAISY

stands for leading-edge fur products that blend the latest trends with time-proven craftsmanship. Here you’ll only find handmade pieces that guarantee top quality at reasonable prices: from voguish headwear and accessories to cuddly vests and wraps.

CHALET AFFAIR

Company

Our family-led firm is now in the fourth generation. As a European leader serving the world market, we look back on a rich history, enjoy a dynamic present and look forward to attaining new heights with passion and inspiration.

Applying our vast expertise and experience, we travel far and wide handpicking first-rate skins. Over the decades, Hofmann & Son have acquired a reputation for excellent craftsmanship and a keen eye for fashion and design.

Frankfurt, the capital of the German fur trade since the post-war years, boasts many of the world’s best furriers, who are famous for their expertise, skills and experience. Here Hofmann & Son have everything at a single address: storage, an atelier, production and finishing shops, quality assurance, customer services and management. The complete service includes packaging, support, shipping and customs clearance.

History

Our firm’s roots reach back to the early 20th century. The story began with Emil Hofmann of Leipzig, which was the bustling hub of the world’s fur trade from the Middle Ages until just before WW II.

According to family legend, in the 1930s Emil crafted a fur coat for the wife of a politically connected customer – who returned the favour by warning him just in time to get himself and his family to safety.

After the war, Emil and his son Elias reunited to establish a new home in Frankfurt, where fur merchants were then flocking. They founded Hofmann & Son here in 1951 and their business soon prospered. They travelled the world buying and selling premium furs under conditions that are now hard to imagine, managing without jet aeroplanes, smartphones or the internet.

Today we draw on this rich heritage while also diversifying into new activities.
